Michigan Wolverines’ Offense Falls: Kirk Campbell Fired as OC; Team to Conduct National Search for Replacement
Despite their upset win over Ohio State, the Michigan Wolverines have made a major coaching change. Head coach Sherrone Moore announced on Tuesday that he had relieved offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell of his duties and would conduct a national search for his replacement.
Campbell, who worked his way up the Wolverines’ ranks, was previously the team’s quarterbacks coach in 2023 and was promoted to offensive coordinator when Sherrone Moore took over as head coach. However, he was only able to last one season in the role.
The Wolverines’ offense struggled under Campbell’s guidance, ranking 128th in yards per game and 125th in first downs per game. They were also 111th in points scored. In their win over Ohio State, the Wolverines managed to score just one touchdown against one of the best defenses in the country.
Steve Casula, the team’s tight ends coach, will serve as interim offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.
Moore praised Campbell’s work but said the change was necessary to move the program forward. “I want to thank Kirk for his hard work and dedication to the university, Michigan Football, and our student-athletes,” he said. “I wish him well in his future coaching endeavors.”
The Wolverines’ search for a new offensive coordinator will be closely watched, particularly with the commitment of quarterback Bryce Underwood, a highly touted recruit, and the need to revamp the struggling offense.
