Miami’s Cam Ward expresses frustration with latest College Football Playoff ranking, citing lack of tape study.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward and head coach Mario Cristobal are speaking out after the College Football Playoff selection committee left the team on the outside looking in. Ward expressed frustration and disappointment, citing the committee’s lack of consideration for the Hurricanes’ two losses compared to Alabama’s three, including a loss to Oklahoma where they only scored three points.

Ward questioned the committee’s ability to accurately evaluate teams, stating that he doubts the officials watch much tape before making their decisions. He also emphasized that Miami is a 10-2 team with a strong résumé, but the committee ranked them behind Alabama, who has a weaker schedule.

Cristobal also weighed in, suggesting that the committee should focus on the facts, but the officials disagreed, citing Alabama’s stronger record against top 25 teams and teams with winning records.

Committee chair Warde Manuel explained that Alabama’s 3-1 record against current top 25 teams and their 6-1 record against teams above.500 ultimately sealed their spot at number 11, while Miami’s 0-1 record against top 25 teams and their 4-2 record against teams above.500 kept them out of the top 12.
