Meta’s Family of Apps Experience Widespread Outage
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, was met with a set of unexpected circumstances during the Meta Connect event in Menlo Park, California, on Wednesday, as his company’s family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and others, went down.
The widespread outages began at around 9:57 a.m. PST and affected the social media company’s core apps as well as Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger, according to user-submitted reports gathered by the internet-monitoring site Downdetector. At its peak, over 100,000 users experienced problems using the Facebook service at 10:11 a.m. PST.
Meta acknowledged the outage through a series of posts on Instagram, stating that it was aware of a technical issue that was impacting some users’ ability to access its apps, and apologized for any inconvenience. The company assured that it was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Hours later, Meta reported that the issue was still affecting its apps, saying it was “99% of the way there” and was just conducting last-minute checks. Meanwhile, Instagram announced that it was back online, apologizing for the delay and thanking users for their patience.
