The Merry Brides, the new Netflix holiday romantic comedy, has captured the hearts of viewers with its charming storylines and lovable characters. The film’s leads, Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson, took some time to chat with us about their experience bringing these modern-day characters to life.

What drew you both to this project?

Chad Michael Murray: “I think what really drew me in was the script. The dialogue was witty and funny, and the characters were well-rounded and interesting. I also loved the idea of playing a character who’s a bit of a cynic, but ultimately learns to open his heart. It’s a great arc for an actor!”

Britt Robertson: “I agree! I loved the idea of playing someone who’s a hopeless romantic, but also kind of guarded. I think we all have that in us, a little bit of a mix of both. I was excited to dive in and explore that vulnerability and show people that it’s okay to be a little flawed and imperfect.”

You both have had success in your careers before this project. What made you want to collaborate on something this light-hearted and festive?

Chad Michael Murray: “You know, sometimes you just need a palette cleanser, right? It was nice to do something that was a little lighter and more fun. Plus, I love Christmas movies! I’ve always been a sucker for a good holiday film, so when I read this script, I knew I had to be a part of it.”

Britt Robertson: “Absolutely! I’ve always been a fan of romantic comedies, and I loved the idea of doing a Christmas movie. It’s just so iconic and special, you know? I think people love the nostalgia and the ‘pomp and circumstance’ of the holiday season. Plus, working with Chad was a dream for me – we’ve been friends for years, but this is the first time we’ve had a chance to work together on a project.”

Now that the film is out, what do you think audiences are going to love most about it?

Chad Michael Murray: “I think people are going to love the chemistry between our characters. Britt and I have great chemistry, and that’s what makes the romance work. I also hope people will appreciate the way the story touches on some deeper themes – like family, friendship, and the importance of putting others first during the holidays.”

Britt Robertson: “I agree, and I think people will love the humor! We had a great time during filming, and that energy translates to the screen. But also, I think people will respond to the heart of the story – it’s a reminder that love comes in all forms, and that the holiday season is a time to come together and find joy in the simple things.”

What’s next for you both? Are you working on any new projects that you can share with us?

Chad Michael Murray: “I’ve been developing a new TV series, and we’re hoping to get a pickup soon. It’s a bit of a darker subject matter, but I think it’s really exciting. I’m also producing a few documentaries and looking forward to exploring those projects further.”

Britt Robertson: “I just wrapped up principal photography on a new film, and it’s a really unique and exciting role for me. I’m still getting the script finalized, but I’m really proud of the work we’ve done so far. I’m also exploring some TV series options, so we’ll see what the future holds!”

As we wrapped up our chat, it became clear that The Merry Brides has left an impact on its leads, as well. Both Chad and Britt Robertson spoke about the joy and camaraderie they experienced during production, and how it’s stuck with them long after the cameras stopped rolling.

As the festive season approaches, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with some hot cocoa and fall in love with The Merry Brides. And, according to the stars, there’s already talk of a potential sequel – we can’t wait to see what’s in store for these beloved characters!
