Mel Gibson Hopes to Start Production on ‘The Resurrection of the Christ’
Veteran actor Mel Gibson recently guested on the popular podcast of Joe Rogan, where he spoke about his plans to start production on a sequel to his 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ”. The film, titled “The Resurrection of the Christ”, is expected to begin production next year.
According to Gibson, the script, which he co-wrote with his brother and Randall Wallace, is an “acid trip” and has been seven years in the making. The story will revolve around Jesus Christ’s resurrection, three days after his crucifixion, and will require a lot of planning and execution.
Gibson confirmed that he plans to re-cast Jim Caviezel in the role of Jesus, and will use “a few techniques” such as CGI de-aging to make him look younger, as it’s been over 20 years since the first film. The film will be an ambitious project, promising to take the audience on a journey from the fall of the angels to the death of the last apostle.
Gibson is aware of the challenges that lie ahead, describing the film as “very ambitious” and expressing doubts about his ability to pull it off. However, he’s willing to take on the challenge, saying “it’s not going to be easy and it’s going to require a lot of planning… I’ll take a crack at it because that’s what you got to do, right, walk up to the plate, right?”
