Mel Gibson’s Home Destroyed in Los Angeles Wildfires
Mel Gibson’s home in Malibu was destroyed in the recent Los Angeles wildfires while he was away recording a podcast with Joe Rogan in Austin, Texas. Gibson shared the news during a telephone interview with NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”
Gibson, who was “ill at ease” during the podcast because he was aware that his neighborhood was on fire, said he was doing okay in the wake of the destruction. “Obviously, it’s kind of devastating. It’s emotional,” he said. “You live there for a long time, and you had all your stuff. You remember [comedian] George Carlin talking about your stuff? I had my stuff there, and it’s all like, I’ve been relieved from the burden of my stuff because it’s all in cinders.”
Gibson and his girlfriend had evacuated, but she stayed in California while he went to Texas to do the podcast. When he returned home, he found that his house was gone. “I went home and I said to myself, ‘Well at least I haven’t got any of those pesky plumbing problems anymore,'” he said.
Other celebrities, including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Billy Crystal, Jeff Bridges, Paris Hilton, Ricki Lake, and Miles Teller’s wife Keleigh, have also lost their homes in the fires. Moore shared an update on Instagram, saying that her Altadena home was still standing, but not livable, and that they lost their garage and back house. Crystal said that his family’s home in the Pacific Palisades was destroyed, and that they are heartbroken but will get through this with the love of their children and friends.
Bridges’ family beach home was also destroyed, but they are safe. Lake shared on her Instagram page that she lost her “dream home” in the fires, saying that it was their “heaven on earth” where they planned to grow old together.
