Dallas guard Kyrie Irving is expected to miss one to two weeks with a bulging disc in his back, according to coach Jason Kidd. Irving is the Mavericks’ second-leading scorer, averaging 24.3 points per game and shooting close to 50% from the field and 44.1% from 3-point range.
Mavericks leading scorer Luka Doncic, who is sidelined with a left calf strain, sat out his sixth game, leaving the team with a scoring void. Irving’s injury is another blow to the Dallas attack, which now has to cope without 52.4 points per game.
“It’s important for everyone in uniform,” Kidd said. “Being short-handed, it’s the next-man-up mentality. We can’t replace Luka or Ky, so it’s going to take a team effort.”
Dallas is currently 20-15 and in third place in the Southwest Division, three games behind Houston. With Irving and Doncic out, the team is searching for a solution to fill the scoring gap.
