Actor Matthew McConaughey Showcases Lifelong Washington Redskins Fandom
Actor Matthew McConaughey has been a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins, now known as the Commanders, and showed off his fandom on Sunday as the team prepares to play in the NFC Championship. McConaughey posted a photo of a tiny letterman jacket with the Redskins logo on the left side, captioning it “Hailing since 1974.”
In 2014, McConaughey told GQ magazine that he became a fan of the Redskins because of old Western movies, specifically because he “rooted for the Indians” and liked the team’s linebacker Chris Hanburger. At the time, he also expressed support for keeping the Redskins nickname, which was later changed in 2020 amid a summer of racial tension in the U.S.
McConaughey’s support for the team has not wavered, and he will be watching closely as the Commanders look to make the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1991 season.
