Capitol Heights, Maryland, man charged with murdering his girlfriend and hiding her body in a “makeshift tomb” in his home.
Thirty-year-old Devontae Gray of Capitol Heights has been charged with first-degree murder and other related charges in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 29-year-old Alexis Schuler of Washington, D.C.
On January 18, the Metropolitan Police Department in D.C. contacted police in Prince George’s County to investigate Schuler’s disappearance, who had been reported missing earlier in the week.
On January 22, the Prince George’s Police Department executed a search warrant at Gray’s home and discovered what they believed to be Schuler’s remains, after extensive efforts were taken to hide the body. Gray was arrested at the scene and allegedly confessed to murdering Schuler.
Police later determined that Schuler had been shot.
FOX 5 D.C. obtained the charging documents, which indicate that Gray was seen on surveillance video purchasing construction materials while wearing a full-body construction suit, and a strong smell was noticed when entering his home.
Investigating police found a handgun, fresh drywall, cleaning and construction materials, and eventually discovered a human foot believed to belong to Schuler inside a bin located under the stairs of Gray’s residence.
Gray is currently being held in custody pending trial.
