Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has written a post on X expressing her frustration that Republicans are taking up the issue of transgender athletes competing in girls’ and women’s sports, rather than Democrats.
Navratilova has been a vocal critic of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, and has spoken out against what she sees as the unfair advantage that male-identified individuals have when competing against biological women.
In her post, she expresses her anger at what she sees as the Democrats’ silence on the issue and notes that she and other Democrats initially attempted to find ways to include transgender athletes in women’s sports, but ultimately realized it was impossible to do so in a fair way.
Navratilova also references the case of University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas, who Competed in the NCAA women’s championships, and notes that there is a connection between women’s sex-based spaces and women’s sports.
The tennis legend has also been criticized for her views, with some calling her a homophobe and a transphobe, but she says she is speaking up for the rights of women to have their own spaces and opportunities.
