Meta to Invest $60-$65 Billion in AI Infrastructure in 2025
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday that the company plans to invest around $60 billion to $65 billion in capital expenditures in 2025 to build out its artificial intelligence infrastructure. Zuckerberg referred to 2025 as “a defining year for AI” and stated that Meta is constructing a large datacenter that would cover a significant part of Manhattan to power its AI offerings. The company plans to bring on around 1 gigawatt in compute and end the year with more than 1.3 million graphics processing units.
Zuckerberg emphasized that this massive effort will drive Meta’s core products and business, unlock historic innovation, and extend American technology leadership. Meta shares closed at a new all-time high of $647.49 on Friday following the announcement.
The company has been investing heavily in AI and research and development in recent years, but it’s a competitive market and will take time before investors see the benefits. Zuckerberg expects a “multiyear investment cycle” before Meta’s AI products will scale into profitable services, but noted that the company has a strong track record in this department.
Meta’s AI digital assistant is expected to become the leading assistant serving more than 1 billion people, and the company is also building an AI engineer that will contribute increasing amounts of code to its R&D efforts. Zuckerberg stated that Meta has the capital to continue investing in the years ahead.
