Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Praises Trump Administration, Predicts Big Year for Redefining Relationships with Governments
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg praised the Trump administration on a call with investors, saying that 2025 will be a big year for “redefining” the company’s relationships with governments. Zuckerberg praised the administration for backing Silicon Valley and prioritizing American technology, adding that he is optimistic about the progress and innovation that this can unlock.
The comments come as Meta has been working to smooth over relations with President Donald Trump since his victory in November. The company donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund late last year and Zuckerberg dined with him privately at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
Meta has also made changes to its fact-checking policies, eliminating third-party fact-checking to “restore free expression” to its platforms. Zuckerberg claimed that the fact-checkers had been “too politically biased” and had destroyed more trust than they had created, especially in the U.S.
The move was seen as a nod to Trump, who and other Republicans have long claimed that Meta’s platforms like Facebook and Instagram censor conservative views. Zuckerberg and Trump have had a rocky relationship in the past, with Trump threatening the tech executive with life in prison.
Zuckerberg also attended Trump’s inauguration alongside other tech moguls like Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
Shares of Meta were up slightly in extended trading after the company reported fourth-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street’s expectations on top and bottom lines.
