Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis reiterated on Wednesday that he’s not making any midseason decisions, including whether first-year head coach Antonio Pierce will return next season. Davis declined to comment on Pierce’s future, stating, “I don’t even want to talk about that right now. We’re still playing through the season.”
Davis added that he’s not providing a vote of confidence in Pierce, who is in his first full year as an NFL coach. Despite this, Davis did acknowledge that he’s the one who hired the officials who make decisions on the field, accepting responsibility for the team’s 2-11 record.
Pierce, who took over as interim head coach in 2023 and was officially named head coach this year, has struggled, with the team on a nine-game losing streak. However, Davis believes that the blame lies not only on the team’s performance but also on his own decisions, saying, “I’m the one who’s hiring the people who make the decisions on the field. If there’s going to be a finger pointed, it should be at me.”
Despite the struggles, Davis emphasized the importance of finishing the season and re-evaluating in the off-season. He also stated that it’s a “misconception” that he makes decisions on the field, instead delegating to the officials he’s hired.
