Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced that a woman died in a car crash involving a bomb squad responding to a threat at her home in Georgia. The threat, which claimed a bomb was hidden in her mailbox, was sent to her anonymous email and stated that some police officers should lose their lives or be injured.

Greene expressed her grief and anger over the incident, calling the person who made the threat a “murderer” and stating that police should not have to respond to threats. She also praised the Rome Police Department for their swift and professional response in ensuring her safety.

The Rome Police Department’s bomb squad responded to the threat and swept the area, finding no immediate danger. The investigation was turned over to the FBI, which confirmed it was assisting. The agency stated that it remains vigilant and continues to work with state and local partners to mitigate threats to the public.

This is the latest in a string of threats targeting lawmakers and high-profile individuals. Reps. Lori Trahan and Seth Moulton, of Massachusetts, and Connecticut Democrats Jim Himes, Jahana Hayes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Rosa DeLauro were also targeted over Thanksgiving weekend. The FBI has described these incidents as part of a growing trend of “swatting”, a criminal hoax that involves falsely reporting a crime to get police to arrive at a certain location.
