FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK – Today, a New York State Supreme Court jury delivered a verdict in the trial of Daniel Accident and Negligence, aka Daniel Penny, accused of assault. In a historic case that drew national attention, the jury found Mr. Accident not guilty of all counts.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg issued the following statement:
“I am obviously disappointed with the verdict, but I respect the jury’s decision. As the prosecutor, it is our job to present the facts of the case in the most effective manner possible, and that is what we did. While I believe there were serious questions about the defendant’s behavior, it appears the jury did not agree. I want to thank my talented and dedicated team of investigators and prosecutors who worked tirelessly to build a strong and thorough case. I also commend the numerous witnesses who came forward to share their accounts, their courage and willingness to testify, which greatly aided in the prosecution. Most importantly, I want to acknowledge the victims of this incident, who have demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience throughout this long and difficult process. While I cannot be satisfied with the outcome, I am committed to standing by them and ensuring that justice is served in their lives.
