Arctic Blast Leaves Death and Devastation in Its Path
An arctic blast has left at least six people dead and caused widespread destruction across the United States as freezing temperatures and heavy snow have made roads impassable. The storm, Winter Storm Blair, has brought severe weather conditions to areas in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and South, with the number of deaths expected to rise as the storm continues to bring icy conditions.
The storm swept across the country, dumping heavy snow and ice on cities such as Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington D.C., and leaving over 200,000 homes and businesses without power. The latest reports show that the storm has left a trail of devastation in its wake, with fatalities reported in Missouri, Texas, and Kentucky, among other states.
In Houston, a man was found frozen to death at a bus stop, while a 61-year-old man died in Jackson County, Missouri, after being struck by a truck that was sliding down an icy road. In Kansas, a 33-year-old man was killed by a parked semi-truck that slid down a hill and struck him as he was crossing a street.
Heavy snow has also caused a series of traffic deaths, with a 28-year-old driver killed in a crash on a snow-covered road in Kansas. Two young people died in a horror crash in Wichita, Kansas, while a 10-year-old child died after being slingshotted from a tube while being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle.
Winter Storm Blair is expected to continue to bring frigid conditions to the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, with another storm expected to blow through the South on Thursday and head eastward into areas of Georgia. Cities such as Dallas, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee, can expect snowy conditions, while St. Louis, Missouri, is also expected to be blanketed with white.
