Malibu Wildfire Devastates Near Pepperdine University, Thousands Evacuated.

A Real-Time Map Showcases the Perimeter and Evacuation Zones of the Ongoing Franklin Fire

A massive fire in the Malibu area of Los Angeles County has prompted a real-time map from fire officials to visualize the mandatory evacuation order in effect. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department website, the evacuation zone covers the area east of Malibu Canyon Road and south of Piuma Road, as well as the Serra Retreat area.

Pepperdine University, located in the area, reported power outages and activated a shelter-in-place protocol, which was lifted by 8 a.m. Tuesday. Although the university is not currently under threat from the fire, officials are closely monitoring the situation and staying in contact with emergency responders.

As the damage assessment in the Malibu area is still underway, it is expected that some homes will be severely damaged, according to Matt Myerhoff, a spokesperson for the city, who confirmed that “it’s certain some number of homes are definitely going to be badly damaged.”
