According to the CNBC All-America Economic Survey, Americans are prepared to support President-elect Donald Trump in his second term, with 54% of the public saying they are “comfortable and prepared to support” him, which is down 2 points from when he took office in 2016.

The survey of 1,000 people nationwide, taken December 5-8, 2024, with a margin of error of +/- 3.1%, also found majorities supporting some of his controversial promises on the campaign trail, such as cutting individual taxes, increasing deportation of undocumented immigrants, reducing the size of government, drilling for more oil on federal lands, and cutting taxes and regulation for business.

However, the survey also showed that Americans are more skeptical of other parts of Trump’s agenda, including his plan to pardon those convicted of crimes in the January 6 Capitol riot, with 50% opposing the move.

The survey found that 60% of Americans say deploying the military to the border to stop illegal drugs and human trafficking should be a 2025 priority, with 13% saying it should be done later in the term. Just 24% oppose this proposal.

A significant majority of respondents (51%) expect their personal financial situation to improve under the new administration, 10 points higher than when Trump was first elected in 2016. The same percentage (51%) also expects the U.S. economy to improve, up 5 points from 2016.

The survey also found that Americans are more hopeful about the economic outlook, with 46% expecting the economy to improve in the next year, compared to 25% who said the same in 2022. However, this optimism is driven by a switch of Republicans and, to a lesser extent, independents from being pessimistic to optimistic.
