Wicked: The Movie – Madame Morrible’s Connection to The Wizard of Oz

Wicked, the highly successful movie adaptation of the 2003 stage musical, has received excellent reviews since its release. One of the most intriguing aspects of the film is the character of Madame Morrible, who plays a crucial role in the story. However, her absence from the original Wizard of Oz film raises questions about her whereabouts during the events of the original story.

Act 2 of Wicked reveals what Madame Morrible was up to during the events of The Wizard of Oz. She is integral to the story, as she continues to scheme with the Wizard and positions Glinda as the lead spokesperson for the Wizard. She also announces her surprise engagement to Fiyero, much to his dismay.

Madame Morrible’s biggest contribution to The Wizard of Oz is that she brought Dorothy to Oz using her weather powers to summon the tornado that ripped Dorothy’s house from Kansas. Although her intention was to kill Nessarose, who had become the Wicked Witch of the East, she is still responsible for Dorothy’s introduction to Oz. She eventually gets her comeuppance as she is arrested by Glinda at the end of the story for her role in Nessarose’s death.

The reason Madame Morrible wasn’t in the original Wizard of Oz film is that she didn’t exist in the original book. She was a unique creation of the Wicked stage musical, which expanded the universe of the Wizard of Oz. While some might see her as nothing more than the Wizard’s lackey, her character makes her more important to the plot.

In fact, Madame Morrible is the one who brings about the inciting incident of the Wizard of Oz, making her a very interesting part of the Wizard of Oz universe. This part of Oz’s history alone makes Morrible a very interesting part of the Wizard of Oz universe, as she is now responsible for the entirety of the first story, even though she wasn’t even in it.

The sequel to Wicked, titled Wicked: For Good, will likely follow suit and show Morrible bringing about the events of the initial film. With how closely Wicked adhered to the first act, it is likely that the sequel will also adhere to the second act, and Morrible’s role in the story will be fully explored.
