Luigi Mangione’s Pictures Evoke Cheering Reception in Boston

Attendees at a recent dance party in Boston went wild when pictures of Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused in the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, popped up on the big screen. The event, known as Jingle Bop, was hosted by Bop to the Top Tours at Big Night Live venue in Boston.

During the show, a DJ played Miley Cyrus’ hit song “He Could Be The One” as photographs of Mangione, pulled from his social media profiles, appeared on the massive screen. The crowd couldn’t help but cheer even louder when Mangione’s booking photos were displayed on screen.

The enthusiastic reception of Mangione’s mugshots was shared on TikTok, racking up over 1.2 million likes. The popularity of the clip has caught the attention of Bop to the Top Tour, which posted the video on its Instagram page with a caption that read “Too unserious.”

Mangione has gained notoriety online since his December 9 arrest at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. A crowdfunding campaign has raised over $100,000 to go towards his legal fees and his lawyer has received several offers from people willing to cover his legal bills.

Mangione remains incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution Huntingdon in Pennsylvania without bail, charged with gun and forgery offenses related to the killing of Ryan Thompson, 50.

Prosecutors in Manhattan have requested Mangione’s extradition to face charges of second-degree murder and other allegations related to Thompson’s fatal shooting on December 4. Mangione’s defense attorney has indicated that he will plead not guilty in Pennsylvania and contest his extradition to New York. The Manhattan District Attorney has, however, hinted that signs suggest Mangione may reconsider his fight against extradition.

Mangione’s arrested included a handgun matching shells found at the crime scene, as well as matching fingerprints on a water bottle and wrapper found near the location of the shooting. A handwritten note discovered on him expressed his frustration about the US healthcare system, condemning corporations for prioritizing profits over people’s wellbeing.
