A notebook found on Luigi Mangione, the suspect arrested in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, contains a description of killing a CEO that matches the details of the alleged murder. The notebook states: “What do you do? You wack the CEO at the annual parasitic bean-counter convention. It’s targeted, precise and doesn’t risk innocents.”
Mangione was arrested on Monday in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after police found a gun, silencer, and ammunition in his backpack. The gun was found to match shell casings at the scene of Thompson’s murder, which occurred outside the Hilton hotel in Manhattan on December 4.
Police also found fingerprints on a water bottle and Kind snack bar left near the shooting scene that match those of Mangione. Mangione was seen purchasing water and protein bars before the shooting.
Surveillance video shows a masked man firing a gun with a silencer at Thompson from behind, and another person standing nearby. The note also criticizes UnitedHealthcare, the US healthcare industry, and corporations, and states that Mangione is not working with anyone.
Mangione has been charged with murder and gun crimes in Manhattan and is being held without bail in Pennsylvania. He refused to waive extradition to New York to face charges in the killing of Thompson.
