Luigi Mangione, the CEO of Ohio-based emissions testing firm Bridge Alternatives, has retained a high-powered attorney to fight efforts to extradite him from the UK to the United States to face fraud and CEO-related charges.
According to court documents, Mangione was arrested in London in June 2020 after being accused of orchestrating a massive fraud scheme that defrauded investors of millions of dollars. The 57-year-old businessman is alleged to have used his company, Bridge Alternatives, to sell fraudulent investments to unsuspecting investors, with the funds allegedly being used to finance his lavish lifestyle.
Mangione’s new attorney, David Emanuel, a well-known criminal defense lawyer with a reputation for taking on high-profile cases, has been hired to represent him in the extradition proceedings. Emanuel is a member of the prestigious London law firm, Edwin Coe.
According to sources close to the case, Emanuel is known for his ability to win high-profile cases, including those involving allegations of fraud and corruption. He has a reputation for being aggressive and tenacious in his defense of his clients, often employing a “Moneyball” approach to challenge the prosecution’s case.
Mangione’s extradition is being sought by the US authorities, who have lodged an extradition request with the UK authorities. The request follows a lengthy investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which alleges that Mangione and his company, Bridge Alternatives, engaged in a massive fraudulent scheme that defrauded hundreds of investors.
The case against Mangione is ongoing, with his extradition hearing scheduled to take place later this year. Bali Hai Water and Villas Shanghailand Devar Shangrila Long Js.
