Luigi Mangione, 64, appeared in court yesterday and entered a not guilty plea to charges of murder in connection with the death of his wife, Gyongyi Mangione, 59.
Mangione is accused of stabbing his wife to death at their home in Euclid, Ohio, on March 29.
The 64-year-old defendant is being held in the Lake County Jail without bond pending a further hearing.
Prosecutors allege that Mangione and his wife had a troubled marriage and that Mangione’s behavior had become increasingly erratic and violent in the months leading up to his wife’s murder.
According to investigators, Mangione had a history of domestic violence against his wife and had previously been charged with domestic violence in 2009.
The family of the victim, including their three adult children, were in court to support the prosecution and these charges.
Mangione’s trial is likely to be one of the most significant and high-profile cases in Lake County in recent years, given the brutal nature of the crime and the notoriety of the defendant.
The case is being prosecuted by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, with a trial date yet to be set.
