Luca Meixner, 22, Dies Suddenly in Tragic Loss for German Soccer Community.



Luca Meixner, a 22-year-old soccer player who played for SSV Reutlingen 05 in Germany, has died, the club announced on Saturday. According to the club’s statement, Meixner died “unexpectedly” and the cause of death has not been revealed. Meixner joined the main team in 2021 after spending four years at the youth level and played in 100 matches, scoring six goals.

The club stated that the entire SSV family is “deeply disturbed and stunned” by the news, and their thoughts are with Meixner’s family, friends, and teammates. Meixner played in the club’s final match on December 7, before the winter break, and appeared to be in good health at the time.

SSV Reutlingen 05 plays in the Oberliga Baden-Wurttemberg, which is a part of Germany’s fifth tier, and is currently in 10th place in this season’s standings. The club has paid tribute to Meixner on their website with photos and a statement expressing their sadness at his passing.
