LSU Freshman Quarterback Colin Hurley Injured in Car Crash

LSU freshman quarterback Colin Hurley was involved in a car crash on campus early Thursday morning, according to a police report. The 17-year-old Hurley was found unresponsive but breathing by the Baton Rouge Fire Department and LSU police near the gates of one of the campus entrances at around 3 a.m.

The report states that Hurley was driving a Dodge Charger at the time of the crash and collided with a tree at South Quad Drive and Highland Road. The cause of the crash has not been made public, but officials say impairment was not believed to have been a factor.

Hurley, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, did not see any action during his true freshman season. His family released a statement on Thursday, thanking medical personnel and LSU football fans for their support as he continues to recover.

“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurse at Our Lady of the Lake Heath and the many Tiger Fans for their care and compassion,” the statement read. “Colin is resting and is stable while more tests and care are being administered. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident.”

Hurley is a minor, and university officials did not provide further comment on the situation.
