Logan Thompson blames rogue nacho platter for Oilers goal.

Edmonton Oilers star Corey Perry scored a goal in Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Capitals, but it was a peculiar assist that caught everyone’s attention. As Perry skated into the Capitals’ zone, he received a pass from Leon Draisaitl and beat goalie Logan Thompson to cut the lead to one goal. However, Thompson initially protested the goal, claiming something had been thrown onto the ice before the pass was made. A replay of the play revealed that a fan had thrown a plate of nachos onto the ice, which distracted Thompson and led to Perry’s goal.

Capitals coach Spencer Carbery joked about the unusual incident, saying it was the first time he had seen a nachos-on-the-ice game in the NHL. Thompson admitted after the game that he should have played until the whistle and apologized for not noticing the fan throwing the nachos. Perry, on the other hand, said he didn’t even notice the plate of nachos.

The Capitals went on to win the game 3-2, extending their win streak to five games. The Oilers, who have now dropped two in a row, were without star forward Connor McDavid, who was serving a three-game suspension for cross-checking.
