Live Updates: US Snow Coverage Closures & Cancelations

A powerful snowstorm brought a region in the United States to a standstill over the weekend, leaving thousands of motorists stranded and causing numerous car accidents. The storm affected several states, including Missouri, Virginia, Indiana, Kansas, and Kentucky, where a state of emergency was declared.

According to authorities, at least 600 motorists were stranded in Missouri, while hundreds of car accidents were reported across the affected states. In Virginia, at least 135 crashes were reported, and in Charleston, West Virginia, authorities urged motorists to stay home due to several inches of snow that had fallen.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear issued a statement pleading with residents to stay indoors, saying, “We see far too many wrecks out there for people that do not have to be on the roads, so I want to ask: Stay inside.” In response to the severe weather, government buildings in Kentucky were closed on Monday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of continuing hazardous travel conditions, with drifting snow and poor visibility expected in some areas. As the snowstorm continues to impact the region, residents are advised to stay safe and stay indoors until conditions improve.
