Live updates: UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson shooting suspect Luigi Mangione arrested in Pennsylvania

The Suspect in the UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Slaying is an Ivy League Graduate with Unsettling Ties

Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old software engineer, has been identified as a “strong person of interest” in the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione, an Ivy League graduate, comes from a prominent Baltimore family and has a disturbing history.

Mangione graduated from the prestigious Gilman School, an all-boys school in Baltimore, and was the high school valedictorian in 2016. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a master’s and bachelor’s degree in computer science and a minor in mathematics. Mangione was also a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.

After graduating, Mangione worked as a software engineer for TrueCar, an online car sales company. His most recent address was in Hawaii, according to NYPD officials. Mangione is registered to vote in Maryland and is unaffiliated with any political party.

What’s even more unsettling is that Mangione appears to have favorably reviewed the manifesto of the Unabomber on a book website. Additionally, his family has a history of philanthropy and owns Lorien Health Systems, a nursing home chain in Maryland. Mangione volunteered at the nursing home in 2014, according to his LinkedIn page.

Private security guards were seen blocking access to Mangione’s family home in Cockeysville, Maryland, on Monday afternoon. The family’s golf club was also restricted, suggesting that they may be taking precautions to protect their home and loved ones.
