The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was shot and killed in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning, according to a law enforcement official. The shooting occurred outside the New York Hilton Hotel, where Brian Thompson was walking towards the hotel to attend a UnitedHealthcare conference being held in the ballroom. A gunman, who was waiting for some time before Thompson’s arrival, fired multiple times at him from 20 feet away, striking him. It appears to be a targeted shooting, although details on the circumstances are unclear. The gunman fled on West 54th Street, cutting through an alleyway and hopping onto a bicycle on West 55th Street. Investigators are conducting a video canvass of the area to learn more about the getaway trail.
