The Detroit Lions have hired Ben Morton as their new offensive coordinator, replacing Dan Campbell’s former coordinator, Ben Johnson, who left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Morton brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent time with several NFL teams, including the Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers, and New York Jets, as well as a stint as USC’s offensive coordinator.
Morton will inherit a talented offense, featuring players such as offensive tackle Penei Sewell, running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and quarterback Jared Goff. The Lions had the No. 1 scoring offense and No. 2 unit in total yards in 2024, a tough act to follow.
Morton has been with the Denver Broncos the past two seasons, working under head coach Sean Payton. He takes over an offense that is in a state of transition, with Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn both leaving the team after the Divisional Round loss to the Washington Commanders. Kelvin Sheppard has been promoted to defensive coordinator, and Morton will look to build on the team’s success from last season.
