Detroit Lions Take Down San Francisco 49ers in Thrilling Monday Night Matchup
The Detroit Lions didn’t need to win Monday night’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, but head coach Dan Campbell is known for playing full throttle and that’s exactly what he did. The Lions took down the 49ers 40-34, with the starters playing throughout the game on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Jared Goff had a stellar performance, passing for three touchdowns and 303 yards on 26-of-34 attempts. He found wide receivers Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown, as well as a 41-yard touchdown run on a lateral play to Jameson Williams.
The 49ers’ Brock Purdy had a strong game, passing for 377 yards with three touchdowns on 27-of-35 attempts. However, he was ultimately injured on the final 49ers drive and was replaced by backup Josh Dobbs.
Detroit’s defense made key plays, including two interceptions by Kerby Joseph, which led to touchdown drives. Joseph now leads the NFL in interceptions this season with nine.
Amon-Ra St. Brown led the Lions with eight receptions for 60 yards, while LaPorta finished with 64 yards on six catches. Purdy’s favorite target was rookie Ricky Pearsall, who had a game-high 141 receiving yards on eight catches.
The victory was a nice revenge for the Lions, who lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium earlier this season.
