Lilo & Stitch live-action remake: latest details and updates.

The Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Remake: Updates and News

Disney’s live-action remake of the beloved animated classic, Lilo & Stitch, is continuing to make waves with its casting, plot, and release date updates. The film, which blends CGI with live-action footage, is set to premiere on May 23, 2025, as part of Disney’s 2025 summer slate.

The trailer for the remake has been revealed, offering fans a first glimpse of the highly-anticipated film. The 30-second teaser opens with a sweeping shot of Hawaii before shifting to a sandy beach featuring a sandcastle that looks similar to Disney’s iconic castle logo. Stitch, the lovable blue alien, then appears and proceeds to stomp down the sandcastle, reminiscent of a similar scene from the original cartoon.

The cast of the remake includes mostly newcomers, with some known comedic actors filling other roles. Maia Kealoha has been cast as Lilo Pelekai, the rambunctious six-year-old who adopts Stitch, while Sydney Agudong will play Nani Pelekai, Lilo’s protective older sister. Chris Sanders will reprise his role as Stitch from the 2002 animated film, and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) will appear in the film as the Grand Councilwoman.

The remake’s story will focus on Stitch’s initial plans to cause havoc as he is pursued by government agents and other extraterrestrial creatures. However, Stitch acquires a more friendly nature and finds a new purpose in life when he befriends Lilo. The film may incorporate additional new plot points from the direct-to-DVD movies and shows, but nothing is known yet.

In anticipation of the movie’s release, Disney has also revealed that the film will be a theatrical release, although it will likely end up on Disney+ at some point after it leaves theaters.
