Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and his family have had to leave their home due to the ongoing wildfires in the region, with James describing his emotional state as “off.” The four-time NBA champion told reporters that he and his family have been living in a hotel since being evacuated on Thursday night, and are still trying to adjust to their new circumstances.
James, 40, also shared his concerns for his friends who have lost their homes in the fires, expressing his sympathy for all those affected. He noted that the experience is particularly challenging for his family, who have had to evacuate twice before, including in 2019.
The NBA star acknowledged the importance of his position as a professional athlete, saying it is his responsibility to provide some distraction and hope to the community during this difficult time. James emphasized the significance of the Lakers’ upcoming games, saying that they will give people a sense of pride, excitement, and hope.
The team has been idle since their last game, but they are set to return to action on Friday when they host the Brooklyn Nets.
