Lawyer criticizes Trump special counsel’s report, calling it “vintage Jack Smith.”

Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley sounded off on the overnight release of former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on the investigation into President-elect Donald Trump and election interference. Turley described the report as “vintage Jack Smith,” saying it shows a disregard for the controlling decisions of the Supreme Court and reads more like a personal defense than a prosecution argument.

Turley noted that Smith dismissed two key Supreme Court decisions, one related to obstruction and one related to immunity, and said the report is more about Smith defending himself than presenting a strong case against Trump. He also pointed out that Smith had released much of the report before the election, which Turley believes was done to influence the election, but ultimately did not work.

In the report, Smith stated that his office fully stands behind the decision to bring criminal charges against Trump, saying he “resorted to a series of criminal efforts to retain power” after losing the 2020 election. However, Smith also said that the department determined the case must be dismissed before Trump takes office because of its interpretation of the Constitution.

Trump responded to the report on Truth Social, calling Smith “desperate” and “deranged” for releasing his “fake findings” in the middle of the night.
