MAGA firebrand Lauren Boebert "storms" into women’s restroom, only to learn it wasn’t who she thought it was
Representative Lauren Boebert, a conservative firebrand and vocal supporter of Donald Trump, "burst" into a women’s restroom in the US Capitol on Thursday, only to realize she had made a mistake, according to multiple sources.
Boebert, who has been a vocal critic of transgender people using gender-appropriate facilities, allegedly stormed into the restroom in response to rumors that Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress, was present. However, it turned out that McBride was not in the restroom, and Boebert was actually referring to a man who was not transgender.
The incident was witnessed by Bloomberg Congress reporter Billy House, who described Boebert’s actions as "complaining to security personnel stationed in the nearby Speakers Lobby of ‘a guy’ inside." Boebert later apologized for the mistake, stating that she had made an error regarding a mistaken identity.
Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina who has been a vocal critic of transgender people using gender-appropriate facilities, accompanied Boebert when she returned to the restroom to apologize. Mace has pushed her colleagues to keep transgender people out of bathrooms at the Capitol matching their gender identity.
Boebert’s actions sparked widespread outrage, with many critics accusing her of being discriminatory and transphobic. McBride, meanwhile, confirmed that she was not approached by Boebert and reiterated her commitment to complying with the speaker’s bathroom policy.
