Lara Trump, Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has announced her decision to step down, citing that all three goals she had aimed to accomplish during her time as co-chair have been achieved. She started her tenure in March 2024 and was instrumental in helping Republicans regain control of the Senate while maintaining a narrow House majority.
Trump, who has been mentioned as a potential replacement for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, has stated that she “would love to consider” filling the seat if asked by Gov. Ron DeSantis. She recently told Sean Hannity that she “would love to serve the people of Florida” and is open to being considered as a replacement for Rubio.
In a recent interview, Trump expressed how much it would mean to her to be considered for the role, stating, “It would be a true honor.” She noted that her experience as a resident of Florida for over three years and her understanding of the American people through her involvement in politics would make her a strong candidate.
Notably, some prominent individuals, including Sen. Lindsey Graham and entrepreneur Elon Musk, have voiced their support for Trump’s potential nomination. Graham expressed his excitement at the prospect of her becoming Rubio’s replacement, stating that “Republicans could not do better than Lara Trump.”
DeSantis will ultimately decide who fills Rubio’s seat, although it is likely that the governor will take Trump’s candidacy into consideration given the widespread support she has garnered.
