Veteran Tech Journalist Kara Swisher Blasts Mark Zuckerberg Over Facebook’s Fact-Checking Program
Kara Swisher, a well-known tech journalist, unleashed a scathing attack on Mark Zuckerberg in a recent episode of her podcast Pivot. The topic of discussion was Facebook’s decision to end its fact-checking program, a move that Swisher argues is driven by Zuckerberg’s self-interest and business motives.
Swisher criticized Zuckerberg for his inconsistency over the years, saying that he has no values and will shift his stance based on political circumstances. She also referenced a piece written by Will Oremus in the Washington Post, which highlighted how Zuckerberg is repudiating the idea that a company is responsible for bad content on its platform.
Swisher took issue with Zuckerberg’s decision to move the trust and safety and content moderation teams out of California, which she believes will allow Meta to fire a significant portion of its staff and pocket billions in costs. She also argued that Zuckerberg’s move is similar to what Elon Musk’s X has done, and that both companies are putting people in danger.
The journalist also expressed her disappointment in Zuckerberg’s appointment of Dana White, a UFC CEO and Trump crony, to Meta’s board. White has been involved in controversy after a video surfaced of him hitting his wife, which Swisher said was upsetting to many people inside the company.
Swisher concluded her rant by saying that the removal of guardrails at Facebook will be disastrous for people, and that Zuckerberg’s actions are repulsive. She ended her comments by suggesting that Scott Galloway’s favorite barb, “mendacious fuck,” is the best way to describe Zuckerberg.
