Chiefs Celebrate Christmas with Vintage Victory
The Kansas City Chiefs secured the AFC’s number one seed for the fourth time in the Patrick Mahomes era, securing a home playoff start and a two-week break before the postseason. Mahomes led the team to a commanding victory, completing 29 of 38 passes for 320 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
The offense was well-balanced, with rookie Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and tight end Travis Kelce all catching touchdowns. Kelce had a game-high 84 yards and became the 15th player to reach 1,000 career receptions, moving into 14th place all-time.
Despite a struggling run game, which produced only 69 yards, the Chiefs’ high-powered passing attack was enough to secure the win. The team’s defense, which did not have star Chris Jones, still managed to harass Pittsburgh’s quarterback Russell Wilson, sacking him a season-high five times.
Mike Danna led the charge, with two sacks, three tackles for loss, five tackles, and two quarterback hits. The team’s defensive front saw six players produce two or more quarterback pressures, with Charles Omenihu and George Karlaftis posting four apiece.
The victory sets the Chiefs up for a strong postseason run, and they can now look forward to resting their starters for the next two weeks before the playoffs. The team’s performance could be their last in the regular season, as they aim to make history by becoming the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row.
