Justin Verlander joins Giants on 1-year, $15M deal for 20th MLB season.

Justin Verlander and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a one-year contract worth $15 million. The deal, pending a physical, marks the latest move by new Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey since his hire in September.

Verlander, a three-time AL Cy Young Award winner, will join the Giants’ rotation led by Logan Webb. The 20-year major league veteran is coming off a season with the Houston Astros where he went 5-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 17 starts.

Verlander suffered from shoulder inflammation and neck discomfort throughout the 2022 season, which saw him finish the year with a 9.26 ERA in five September starts. He did not pitch in the postseason for the Astros.

The right-hander becomes a free agent, having failed to pitch 140 innings, a total that would have triggered a $35 million conditional player option.
