A Wild Scene Erupts in 76ers-Spurs Game as Joel Embiid is Ejected from the Game
A dramatic scene unfolded during a game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, involving NBA stars Joel Embiid and Victor Wembanyama. Embiid was ejected from the game with 2:59 left in the second quarter after he argued an offensive foul call.
Embiid charged through Wembanyama, who was set up in the middle of the lane, and immediately argued with referee Jenna Schroeder. He was irate after getting thrown out of the game for only the second time in his career and had to be held back by teammate Kyle Lowry, head coach Nick Nurse, and several assistant coaches.
Embiid has had a tough year, dealing with left knee soreness, a three-game suspension over an altercation with a reporter, and a sinus fracture. This was only the eighth game he’s appeared in this season.
The ejection was the second of the night, although the first, which involved 76ers big man Andre Drummond, was later rescinded. Wembanyama was hit with a technical foul for flopping, but it was later rescinded, and a point was also taken away from the 76ers.
Philadelphia went on to defeat San Antonio 111-106.
