The New York Jets Search for New General Manager Underway: Thomas Dimitroff Among Candidates
The Jets’ search for their next general manager got off to a start on Monday, as the team interviewed a familiar face – former Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Dimitroff, who spent 12 years at the helm in Atlanta, is expected to bring his extensive experience and expertise to the position.
During his tenure in Atlanta, Dimitroff drafted quarterback Matt Ryan in 2008 and engineered six playoff appearances, including a NFC Championship in 2016. The team went on to reach Super Bowl LI, where they fell to the New England Patriots, despite holding a commanding 28-3 lead. However, things took a downturn in the years following, with the team posting consecutive 7-9 seasons and finishing a disappointing 4-12 in 2020, resulting in Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn’s departure.
Since being let go in October 2020, Dimitroff has served as the president of football operations at SumerSports, a platform that provides data-driven support to front office personnel at the professional and collegiate levels. With nearly three decades of NFL experience, Dimitroff is being heavily considered for the Jets’ GM position, due in part to his background as a seasoned executive capable of providing guidance and stability.
