New York Jets Daylight After General Manager Firing, Begin Search for New Leader

Ad

The New York Jets are seeking a new general manager to replace Joe Douglas, who was fired after the team’s 3-8 start.

The team’s last general manager, John Idzik Tannenbaum, spent 16 years with the Jets and rose through the ranks, eventually overseeing four winning seasons and two trips to the AFC title game. He has since gone on to serve as the executive vice president of football operations for the Miami Dolphins and a TV analyst for ESPN.

Another experienced NFL executive, Rick Spielman, is a possibility to take over as general manager. He previously spent nine seasons as the general manager of the Minnesota Vikings from 2012 to 2021.

The Jets’ coaching staff is also in flux, with head coach Robert Saleh fired in October and general manager Joe Douglas parting ways with the team last week. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich and general manager Phil Savage are currently leading the team. Despite the uncertainty, the team must navigate the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who may be released in the offseason after two unimpressive seasons. Additionally, team president Neil Grier’s future with the team is also unclear, as he may join the Trump administration.

The New York Jets are set to return to action in Week 13, hosting the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
