Vice President-elect JD Vance Confirms Daniel Penny as Guest at Army-Navy Game
Vice President-elect JD Vance has confirmed that Daniel Penny, a Marine veteran who was found not guilty in the subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely, will be his guest at the annual Army-Navy game in Landover, Maryland. Penny was charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after the 2023 subway incident, but was ultimately acquitted on Monday.
Vance took to social media to confirm Penny’s attendance, writing, “Daniel’s a good guy, and New York’s mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone. I’m grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he’s able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage.”
Penny’s attendance marks a significant turn of events, given the controversy surrounding his case. Prosecutors had moved to dismiss the second-degree manslaughter charge against him after jurors could not reach a decision, and the judge allowed them to deliberate only on the second count, which resulted in an acquittal.
Penny will join President-elect Donald Trump in his suite at the game, which is expected to be a closely watched event, given the rivalry between the two military academies. This season has been a banner year for both teams, with a combined 19 wins, and the winner of Saturday’s game will take home the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy. This will be Trump’s fifth time attending the Army-Navy game, which he first attended in 2016 during his first administration.
