[Jayden Daniels Surpasses Robert Griffin III for Most Rushing Yards by a Rookie Quarterback in NFL History
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has broken the record for most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback in NFL history, surpassing Robert Griffin III’s mark of 815 yards. Daniels achieved the record with a seven-yard run against the Atlanta Falcons, bringing his total rushing yards to 820.
The record-breaking moment came with 9:21 left in the fourth quarter, solidifying Daniels’ position as the rookie quarterback with the most rushing yards in NFL history. Griffin, who set the previous record in 2012, was thrilled for Daniels, stating on Twitter that he was not rooting against the next generation and congratulated Daniels on earning the record.
In addition to breaking the rookie rushing record, Daniels also moved past Kirk Cousins for the second-most combined single-season passing and rushing yards by a quarterback in franchise history with 4,281 yards. Cousins previously held the record with 4,272 combined yards in 2017.
Before the season, Daniels expressed his ambition to join the league’s elite rushing quarterbacks, including Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick. He aims to surpass them, saying “I’m trying to go past them.” Daniels’ impressive rushing ability is no surprise, given his college performance at LSU, where he ran for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns in his final season.
