SUPERSTAR Jay Z has furiously denied “idiotic” claims he drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl.
The music mogul, 55, is named in an anonymous lawsuit alleging he took turns in the attack with fellow rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.
An unnamed female celebrity was also said to have been in the room at an MTV VMAs after-party in New York on September 7, 2000.
Jay Z’s legal team claims the lawsuit is an “extortionate plot” and is demanding that the accuser’s request for anonymity be denied or the case be dismissed.
In a statement, Jay Z said: “My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle. No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion.”
Jay Z’s denial of the allegations has raised concerns for his wife Beyoncé’s planned comeback, which is set to be overshadowed by the scandal. Beyoncé is due to perform at the NFL’s festive clash between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day.
A source close to the singer said: “Bey and Jay are one of the most dominant power couples on the globe, so even though the claim has nothing to do with her, her name has already been dragged into online speculation.”
Jay Z’s statement also addresses his family, saying: “My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such at their young age.”
