JAY-Z Given Greenlight To File Motion To Dismiss Rape Lawsuit
Rap mogul JAY-Z has been given the greenlight to file a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed against him claiming he raped a woman in 1994. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2013, alleges that JAY-Z (Shawn Carter) committed the act in a New York hotel room in 1994. According to court documents, the accuser claimed that JAY-Z drugged her and then sexually assaulted her.
JAY-Z has always denied the allegations and has never been charged or convicted of any crime. The judge in the case, Kevin Davis, has given him permission to file a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, citing the statute of limitations as the reason. The judge stated that the statute of limitations for rape in New York is 10 years, and since the alleged incident occurred in 1994, the current year would be 2004, and the 10-year statute of limitations would have passed.
JAY-Z’s legal team is expected to file the motion to dismiss in response to the lawsuit in the coming days.
