Jamie Foxx’s Netflix special ‘What Had Happened Was’ comes to life in new trailer.

“Jamie Foxx literally died,” a voiceover says in the trailer for comedian Jamie Foxx’s new Netflix special, before he walks on stage and triumphantly declares, “I’m back!”

In the special, titled “What Had Happened Was…”, Foxx discusses the truth behind his 2023 medical emergency that left him hospitalized and fighting for his life. In the trailer, he expresses his gratitude to those who prayed for his recovery and addresses online speculation surrounding his health.

The special was filmed in Atlanta in October and will be released on Netflix on December 10. Foxx was hospitalized in April 2023 with a serious medical complication and later revealed that it started with a “bad headache” and he was “gone for 20 days” before waking up with no memory of what happened.

Foxx has hinted at the severity of his condition, and has promised to tell the world what happened to him in a humorous way. “We’re gonna get back to the stand-up sort of roots,” he said in a recent interview, referencing his last comedy special in 2003.

“What Had Happened Was…” is executive produced by Foxx, Marcus King, Datari Turner, James Longman, Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Hamish Hamilton, who also directs. Foxxhole and Done + Dusted are the production companies. Watch the trailer for “What Had Happened Was…” below.
