A 44-year-old Jamaican man, Damian Gulgar, was arrested in the Florida panhandle for sex crimes involving a teenager. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office alleges that Gulgar engaged in unlawful sexual activity with a minor and failed to disclose his positive HIV diagnosis. According to Sheriff Tommy Ford, Gulgar admitted to being HIV positive and having sexual contact with the teenager during an interview with law enforcement.

Gulgar, who was in the US illegally after overstaying a visa, met the teenager on a social media app. Authorities were able to identify him through crime analysis and search warrants. The sheriff emphasized that the crime is “a very concerning situation” and involves the office’s efforts to combat sexual abuse of children, children meeting adults online, and illegal immigration.

Ford encouraged parents to monitor their children’s social media accounts and educate them on the dangers of meeting up with people they meet online. Gulgar is being held on an ICE hold and will be turned over to ICE custody once state charges are resolved. The sheriff also touched on illegal immigration in Florida, saying that the Biden administration has not done enough to address the issue and that Bay County authorities have arrested nine illegal aliens accused of criminal acts during the end of January.
