Eagles Coach Says Jalen Hurts Deserves MVP Consideration
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni believes that quarterback Jalen Hurts deserves to be considered for the Most Valuable Player award, citing his clean play and ability to win games. Sirianni praised Hurts’ fourth-quarter performances, stating that he is playing “great football” and that his team is winning despite not always getting the statistics to support it.
Sirianni went on to say that a “game manager” is not a pejorative term, as it is a crucial aspect of being a successful quarterback. He mentioned that top quarterbacks such as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes have all been capable of managing games and making plays when necessary.
Hurts himself is not concerned about being called a game manager, seeing it as a term that can be used unnecessarily. He emphasized the importance of each player’s role in managing the game, stating that it is his job to execute, play clean football, and initiate the plays called by his coaches.
Hurts’ recent form has been impressive, generating 20 touchdowns and just two turnovers since Week 6. He and Sirianni also underwent a bonding session during a bye week last season, which has helped the team go on a run. Despite being out of the MVP conversation, Hurts’ steady leadership has the Eagles keeping pace with the Detroit Lions for the top seed in the NFC.
