Ivy League suspect pleads not guilty in UnitedHealthcare CEO’s murder.

Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4 in Manhattan, has pleaded not guilty to 11 state charges, including murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree as a crime of terrorism, and multiple weapons charges. Mangione’s attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, has raised concerns that statements made by government officials, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams, are putting her client’s right to a fair trial at risk. Agnifilo claims that her client is being treated like a “human ping pong ball” and that his treatment since his arrest, including an overwhelming police presence, has compromised his right to a fair trial. Mangione is being held in federal custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on February 21. He faces a possible life sentence in prison if convicted.
